Christian Funeral: Grieving with Hope

The death of a loved one brings deep grief and sorrow. It is a time of mourning, of remembering, and of letting go. The Catholic funeral honours this pain while also proclaiming a profound truth: in Christ, death is not the end, but the passage to eternal life.

Indeed, for your faithful, Lord, life is changed, not ended
— Mass Preface of the Dead

A Catholic funeral is both a time of mourning and a celebration of hope. The Christian community gathers to pray for the deceased, to commend them to God’s mercy, and to support one another in faith and love.

Through Scripture, prayer, and the Eucharist, we are reminded that Jesus has conquered death. Our earthly goodbye becomes a witness to the promise of resurrection.

Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?
— 1 Corinthians 15:55

In the funeral liturgy, we entrust our loved one to God's care, trusting that His love is greater than death. We grieve—but we do not grieve as those without hope.

Funeral Arrangements

Once a funeral director has been engaged, they will work directly with our Brunswick Moreland Catholic Community (BMCC) office staff to arrange the details of the church service. After this initial coordination, we will contact the family to arrange a personal meeting with one of our clergies to support you in planning the funeral liturgy.

We are here to support you during this difficult time. Please don’t hesitate to contact our Parish Office on (03) 9380 1023 with any questions or to begin the process.

Memorial Masses

One-month and one-year memorial Masses can be requested and celebrated during our regular weekend Masses.

Please contact the Parish Office to arrange a suitable date and time.
