Baptism in the Brunswick Moreland Catholic Community

We are delighted that you have chosen to have your child baptised in our community. Please take a moment to review the information below. Once you have selected a date, kindly complete the attached form and return it to us.

Baptism Dates

Baptisms are celebrated once a month at the following times and locations:

  • First Sunday of the month at 12:30 pm – St Fidelis’

  • Second Sunday of the month at 12:30 pm – St Joseph’s

  • Third Sunday of the month at 11:45 am – St Ambrose’s

  • Fourth Saturday of the month at 4:00 pm – Our Lady Help of Christians

Godparents/Sponsors

Carefully consider your choice of Godparents for your child’s Baptism. The requirements are as follows:

  • At least one Godparent must be a Catholic who has received the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation and is over sixteen years of age.

  • One Godparent is sufficient, but you may have two – one of each gender, representing both parents.

  • If a non-Catholic is chosen as a second Christian witness, they must be baptised in another Christian denomination and be prepared to make a Profession of Faith.

  • A person without a religious affiliation cannot be a Godparent or Christian witness.

  • If you live outside the Brunswick Moreland Catholic Community, you will need to provide a Letter of ‘Permission for Baptism’ from your local parish.

Baptism Preparation Session

The preparation session is an essential opportunity for parents to deepen their understanding of Baptism as a significant step in their child’s faith journey. It also provides time to ask any questions about the Baptism process.

  • Location: St Ambrose’s Parish Community Centre, 287 Sydney Road, Brunswick

  • Time: Third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm (approximately one hour)

  • Parking: Available in front of the Church

Please note that attendance is encouraged for both parents and at least one Godparent. If this is your first child, attending the preparation session is essential. For those with additional children, it remains important to attend, as it will help you understand what is required and guide you through the Baptism process.
