Anointing of the Sick: A Sacrament of Strength and Peace
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is a powerful expression of God's presence in times of suffering. It is not only for those near death, but for anyone facing serious illness, surgery, or the burdens of aging. Through this sacrament, the Church prays for healing, peace, and spiritual strength.
In receiving the Anointing, we are invited to surrender our fears and pain to God, trusting in his love and mercy. The laying on of hands and anointing with holy oil are signs of Christ’s compassion and a reminder that we are not alone in our suffering.
“Through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the Grace of the Holy Spirit.
May the Lord, who frees you from sin, save you and raise you up.”
While physical healing may or may not occur, the sacrament always brings the gift of inner peace, courage, and hope. It unites the sick person with the suffering of Christ and strengthens them for the journey—whether toward recovery or into eternal life.
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is celebrated upon request. Please contact the parish office on 03 9380 1023 to make arrangement.
