Longing for the Living Water

1. Project Compassion 2026

Project Compassion 2026 invites our parish to journey through Lent in solidarity with communities in Tanzania, Bangladesh, Fiji, and Gaza. Through Caritas Australia, this program provides clean water, education, sustainable livelihoods, and emergency care. Each week we meet someone whose life has been transformed by these initiatives. This week we meet Hawa from Bangladesh, whose resilience and hope reflect the spirit of Lent: renewal, dignity, and compassion in action. Parishioners are encouraged to take home a Project Compassion box or envelope to support this life‑changing work. Learn more about Hawa and this year’s stories at caritas.org.au/project-compassion.

2. BMCC Lenten Walk – Walking for Water

Join us for the BMCC Lenten Walk, Walking for Water on Saturday 14 March, 8.45am to 12.30pm, followed by lunch. This event invites our parish to stand in solidarity with the millions who walk long distances each day for clean water. As we walk together, we reflect on our blessings and the global call to justice. It’s a gentle, meaningful way to pray with our feet during Lent. All are welcome.

3. BMCC Lenten Concert

Our BMCC Lenten Concert offers a powerful evening of sacred music featuring Handel’s Messiah, Part II and Allegri’s Miserere. Allegri’s setting of Psalm 51, renowned for its soaring soprano lines and haunting beauty, draws listeners into deep reflection on mercy, repentance, and renewal. Paired with Handel’s rich proclamation of Christ’s passion, the concert invites us into the heart of the Lenten journey. Join us on Friday 20 March at 7.30pm at St Ambrose’s Church for an experience that uplifts, challenges, and prepares the soul for Easter. All are warmly welcome.

4. Anointing Mass

Our parish will celebrate the Anointing Mass on Tuesday 24 March at 11.00am at St Ambrose’s Church. This liturgy offers the healing, peace, and comfort of Christ to those experiencing illness, frailty, or the burdens of ageing. It is a moment of prayerful support for all who seek strength and reassurance. The sacrament reminds us that no one journeys through suffering alone. Christ and our community walk with us. Following Mass, everyone is invited to share lunch at the St Ambrose’s Luby Centre, providing fellowship and connection. All parishioners and carers are warmly welcome.

5. Lenten Penitential Service

Join us for our Lenten Penitential Service on Thursday 26 March at 7.00pm at Our Lady Help of Christians. This communal liturgy offers a gentle, prayerful space to reflect, examine our hearts, and prepare for Easter through the gift of reconciliation. Scripture, silence, and guided prayer lead us toward God’s mercy. All parishioners, visitors, and our RCIA candidates and catechumens are encouraged to take part.

6. Lenten Discussion Group on the Sunday Gospels

Journey more deeply into the spirit of Lent by joining our Lenten Discussion Group, held every Thursday at 10.00am in the Spirituality Room at St Ambrose’s Community Centre. Each week, we reflect together on the upcoming Sunday Gospel, exploring its meaning for our lives and our parish community. This gentle, prayerful gathering offers a welcoming space for conversation, insight, and shared faith. Whether you come every week or drop in when you can, all parishioners are warmly invited to participate. Bring your Bible, your questions, and your heart open to the Word of God this Lent.

7. Stations of the Cross

Pray the Stations of the Cross with our parish community each Friday during Lent as we walk with Jesus on the path of his passion. This traditional Lenten devotion helps us enter more deeply into Christ’s love, sacrifice, and compassion for the world. Stations are celebrated at St Joseph’s at 3.00pm and at Our Lady Help of Christians at 9.45am every Friday. All parishioners, families, and visitors are welcome. Whether you join us weekly or occasionally, this simple yet profound prayer is a beautiful way to prepare your heart for Easter and to reflect on God’s immeasurable love.
