Giving Hope to Those Most in Need
This weekend, our parish joins Catholic communities across Victoria in supporting the CatholicCare Victoria Sunday Appeal. Previously held in August, this important appeal now invites us at this time of year to reflect on our faith and our call to serve those who are most vulnerable in our society.
CatholicCare Victoria is the Catholic social service agency of our Archdiocese, offering practical and compassionate support to people facing some of life’s greatest challenges. Their work reaches people experiencing homelessness, those living with mental health challenges, families struggling with relationship difficulties, newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers, and individuals coping with grief and trauma.
This year, the Sunday Appeal focuses especially on bringing hope and support to people experiencing homelessness. For many individuals and families, homelessness is accompanied by fear, isolation and uncertainty. Through the generosity of the Catholic community, CatholicCare Victoria is able to provide safe housing, practical assistance, and ongoing care that restores dignity and helps people rebuild their lives.
Our faith reminds us that caring for those in need is not optional, it is central to the Gospel. As Jesus teaches us:
“For I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” (Matthew 25:35)
When we support CatholicCare Victoria, we live out this Gospel call by welcoming the stranger and standing alongside those who are struggling. Your compassion helps open doors to safety, stability and hope for people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn.
