A new chapter in the life of our Catholic community has begun with the formal approval of the Decree of Amalgamation by Archbishop Peter A. Comensoli, establishing Emmaus Parish, Brunswick Moreland.
The decree merges the former parishes of St Ambrose & Our Lady Help of Christians (Brunswick and Brunswick East), St Joseph’s (West Brunswick), and St Fidelis (Moreland) into one parish community. Issued on 19 June 2026, the decree takes effect from 1 August 2026, creating Emmaus Parish with all the rights, responsibilities and mission of the former parishes.
The amalgamation is the culmination of many years of growing collaboration between the three parishes, which have worked together as the Brunswick Moreland Catholic Community. Following parish consultation and a shared commitment to the vision outlined in the strategic plan Opening Hearts, Opening Doors, parish leaders petitioned the Archbishop for formal amalgamation in May this year.
While united as one parish, our four church communities, St Ambrose, Our Lady Help of Christians, St Joseph’s and St Fidelis, will continue to play a vital role in parish life as we move forward together in mission and service.
Inauguration Celebration – 14 August
The community is warmly invited to celebrate this significant milestone at the Emmaus Parish Inauguration Mass on Friday 14 August 2026 at 7:00pm at St Fidelis Church, Moreland.
Held on the Vigil of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Peter A. Comensoli, who will be the Principal Celebrant for this historic occasion. Following the liturgy, parishioners and guests are invited to gather for a buffet celebration in the St Fidelis School Hall.
This will be a wonderful opportunity to give thanks for our shared journey, celebrate the establishment of Emmaus Parish, and look forward with hope to the future of our united parish community.
